Back to School: Managing Your Time
Back to School: Managing Your Time
Well, Hello August! You got here fast! Our social media feed has been filled with posts and photos of family vacations all summer. It seems that after a couple of years of restricted outings, people were playing catch up with their travel. Summers are usually the time for a more relaxed schedule, rest, travel, vacations, and fun. As Summer winds down, we start to get ready for Fall and Back to School with the aisles stocked with fresh notebooks, school supplies and, of course, pumpkins. Usually it’s a slightly gradual process and you can feel the excitement of transition in the air as people crack open their new calendars and favorite pen. Somehow August snuck up on us quickly and the kids are already starting their busy school schedules and some of us haven’t even gone back to school shopping!
Modern Roots Realty Group cares about more than helping you buy and sell Real Estate. We care about helping you make your house a home. We care about where we live, where we work, and the people we love. We care about making our community a better and more positive place and we care about helping our people in their day to day. We care about leaving our places and people better than we found them. So, here are some of our tips for transitioning from the Summer to the Fall, from rest and relaxation to schedules and back to school and it’s all about managing your time and your mindset.
Plan & Prioritize
Even if you aren’t a natural planner, it is better to have somewhat of a plan in seasons of busyness. Use a calendar system that works for you to keep track of important dates and what must be done. It is helpful to have at least a week at a time planned out so you can then prioritize.
Only you can decide what is most important to you and your people. And if you don’t decide and prioritize for yourself, other people will. So after you plan and schedule what has to be done, plan and prioritize the things that are important to you and your goals. Purposefully create time and space in your calendar – and your life – for these things.
Goal Setting & Manifesting
Having a plan helps you achieve your goals and vision for your future. Set your goals and visions – place reminders in your daily life – in your calendar, on post its, in your phone – to motivate you and hold you accountable. Once you have goals and visions in mind (and in eyesight) – make a plan. What do you need to do to achieve these goals? What steps do you need to take? These steps become a part of the plan and prioritizing.
System & Routines
In order to stay on your plan and schedule to meet your goals and honor your priorities, you need routines. Small daily habits done consistently over time become your routine. The more something becomes a routine – a habit – the less mental, emotional, and physical energy we are using for it which saves all of that energy for other things. Are your routines helping you or holding you back from cultivating the life you want?
What can you do now to make later easier? Adding small systems to your now can make life better for future you. Setting the coffee maker and making lunches the night before makes future morning you a less rushed version of yourself. Taking some time on Sundays to meal plan and prepare for the week makes future you a less stressed and healthier version of yourself.
Rhythms of Life
Just like the seasons, our lives have rhythms. Sometimes, no matter how much you plan, prioritize, schedule and systematize your week, life just happens. So think of it as an outline. You have created a shell of a plan and systems to help you make it happen, but when life throws you a curveball, you can pivot and be flexible. Give yourself some grace – and save some for others as well.
